Dr. Phil McGraw, perhaps the most well-known mental health professional in the world, is the host of the #1 daytime talk show
Dr. Phil.
Now in its 14th season, this trailblazing and award-winning show
continues to provide the most comprehensive forum on mental health
issues in the history of television. Dr. McGraw has a unique ability to
take complicated and technical information and make it accessible and
understandable to the general public. Using the power of television, Dr.
McGraw presents compelling stories about real people with a variety of
emotional and behavioral problems, stripping away the shame and
embarrassment that too often keep people from seeking help. Many
viewers, for the first time in their lives, develop an understanding of
problems experienced by friends, family members or themselves, and, in
the comfort of their homes, experience the hope and possibility of
change. Dr. McGraw continues to value his academic training and
professional qualifications and insists that the information provided on
his show are based on evidence-based treatment options and
state-of-the-art research in the fields of psychology, psychiatry and
medicine.
In addition to
Dr. Phil, Dr. McGraw is the
author of nine #1 New York Times bestsellers, published in 39 languages
with over 33 million copies in print. Because of his broad training,
education and experience in the field of psychology, and his unique
ability to communicate in common sense language, Dr. McGraw is
frequently called upon for his expert opinion on current events by major
national and international news outlets. Dr. McGraw’s constant desire
to provide unique opportunities to improve the lives of the general
public led him to create several innovative and game-changing
businesses, including a revolutionary system to deliver medical and
psychiatric care, developed with his son, Jay McGraw.
Dr. McGraw
and his wife, Robin, are well known for their tireless advocacy for
children and families. In 2003, Dr. McGraw established the
Dr. Phil Foundation,
a nonprofit charitable organization funding many worthy projects
benefitting disadvantaged children and families. In addition to direct
gifts provided to those in need, the McGraws have supported many
charitable organizations, including the Court Appointed Special
Advocates (CASA). The McGraws devoted countless hours to CASA’s
recruitment project, generating an increase of $100 million of volunteer
services in just one year.
Dr. McGraw was honored with a
presidential citation by the American Psychological Association in 2006
for his significant contributions. The
Dr. Phil show has
received 27 Emmy nominations and won 5 PRISM awards for the accurate
depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse and addiction, as well as a
MADD Media Award. In 2015, Dr. McGraw was inducted into the
Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on the
pioneers, visionaries and stars of the electronic arts.
Dr.
McGraw earned a Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the
University of North Texas, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship in
forensic psychology from the Wilmington Institute. Dr. McGraw was a
licensed psychologist in the state of Texas where he practiced clinical
psychology and developed one of the country’s first multi-modal
protocols for the treatment of chronic pain. With training and expertise
in both clinical and forensic psychology, Dr. McGraw founded CSI
(Courtroom Sciences, Inc.), an innovative consulting firm specializing
in all aspects of litigation support, providing multi-disciplinary
expertise in all areas of litigation and forensic arenas, including
some of the country’s most high-profile cases.
